Kapoor and colleagues identify several of the practical and ethics dilemmas that they have encountered in editing The Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Biomedical publishing ethics is continually evolving, with discrepant practice among different publications. Publication ethics apply to authors, editors, peer reviewers, journal publishers or owners, and their respective institutions. The Journal and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) would be enhanced by better formulating and elucidating its authorship requirements and relevant disclosures, both in print and online. The Journal could then serve as a leader in this arena.
